  • Black Ops 4 Blackout PC Review

Featuring the first Battle Royale mode of the popular game series, Call Of Duty: Black Ops 4, Blackout had a lot to prove. Would it follow in Fortnite's successful footsteps who also followed the Battle Royal genre? Or, would it disappoint existing Call Of Duty fans? Find out in our Black Ops 4 Blackout PC Review.

    The Plot

88 players parachute onto the expansive map, collecting equipment and weapons and fighting opponents to become the last player standing. Sounds pretty standard.

However, the attention to detail in the maps, characters, weaponry and graphics is where Blackout really comes into its own.  In fact, Blackout steps apart from its competitors almost instantaneously with the ability to quickly drop from your helicopter, as opposed to waiting, rather impatiently, in the sky, as  on Fortnite.

    The Maps

Perhaps one of the most standout features of Call Of Duty, the maps on Blackout are truly something to behold. The maps showcase the most popular maps from the Black Ops series such as Firing Range, Cargo and Asylum. These have been adapted to fit the battle royale genre whilst still keeping their original charm.

The result is that everything from the cities to the sightlines feels individually handcrafted, interesting and unique yet simultaneously familiar and welcoming. A far cry from the copycat, traditional battle royal experience of hiding behind trees and fighting across sparse landscapes, the maps on Blackout provide a vivid player experience that former battle royale games, like Fortnite, fail to deliver. Add to this the nostalgia these maps provide for seasoned Call of Duty players, and the experience is one that cannot be rivaled.

    Equipment & Controls

As you would perhaps expect from a Call of Duty game, the arsenal of weapons available in Blackout is extensive, practical and detailed, making them fun to use and ensuring every piece of equipment found is a new favourite.

Unlike other battle royale games, Blackout has improved the clunky, one-dimensional control properties when it comes to equipment use. Perhaps one of the best equipment advancements is the ability to fire your weapon while simultaneously using other equipment, or even operating vehicles.

Despite these revolutionary battle royale improvements, Blackout sadly falls short during the product inventory. The inability to display more than one weapon at a time, the inability to drag or re-position items or ammunition on PC and the inability to pick up items based on proximity makes for a clumsy and frustrating player experience that sadly tarnishes the weaponry, no matter how good it looks.

    Graphics

Unlike its battle royale competitors, Blackout was not released as an early access. As a result, the graphics are clean and the frame rate is consistent. When played on a high-end PC, such as the Core i7 7700 Kaby Lake 7th Gen Gaming PC 4GB GTX 1050 Ti Windows 10 Pro 16GB, the graphics and attention to detail is second to none and far surpasses Fortnite.

    acoolcsquartzblue_1 Core i7 7700 Kaby Lake 7th Gen Gaming PC 4GB GTX 1050 Ti Windows 10 Pro 16GB - £819.96

    Characters

The advancements in characters and action on Blackout is one of the most standout developments of the game.

The ability to fight while using vehicles, shoot whilst swimming and heal whilst moving, as opposed to standing still, are revolutionary features that make the game last longer, allow you to explore more advanced techniques and tricks to overall create intense, fast paced fights that break the typical plot of battle royales.

    Our Thoughts

Overall, Blackout has managed to combine the dynamic battle royale genre with the familiar, creative detail of the Call Of Duty series to deliver a polished, enhanced game that rivals its competitors. Yes, there are sadly a range of technical issues on PC, and yes, as Call of Duty goes, the game is relatively slow pace. However, this doesn't discount that the game is fast paced for the battle royale genre. Nor does it take away the joy that comes from playing an outstanding battle royale experience that is combined with one of the most well-developed, innovative gaming series or the immense sense of achievement you feel when, if ever, you actually achieve the last man standing title.

  • Fornite Season 6 is here!

Fortnite season 6 is HERE!  Packed full of Shadow Stones, new music, more map changes and pets! The battle pass costs the same as Season 5; 950 V-Bucks. So in real money, like £7.99! However, you can bump it up to 2800 V-Bucks for the Battle Bundle and you can get the Battle Pass and unlock the first 25 tiers straight away, rather than having to complete all the challenges.

Image result for fortnite season 6

    What to expect?

There are 3 pets you can unlock; Bonesy the dog, Scales the dragon, and Camo the chameleon. They add a layer to your game, as they react to things you do as you play - Bonesy's growl is amazing.

You can also now find Shadow Cubes, that turns you into a ghost. While in this form, you can't shoot but you can phase through solid objects. You can move fast, but you can be killed - so pretty much defenceless.

There are 3 music packs; Squeaky Clean, Eerie and OG remix. It may be that there will be more music packs in the Item Store later.

And of course, the map has changed AGAIN! There are some very obvious changes, like the house in the middle of Loot Lake has been lifted skywards by the cube, and the series of corrupted spot where the Cube previously left runes behind. Plus, some other changes include a spooky castle overlooking Haunted Hills, and a new bunker under the maze in Wailing Woods.

    New Fortnite Bundle

We thought it was only right to put together a Cheap Gaming Bundle for the release of Fortnite Season 6. The bundle comes Intel Core i5 2nd Gen refurbished PC, rebuilt in a Game Max Mini Kallis gaming case, AOC 17" monitor, and GameMax Gaming Keyboard, Mouse, Pad and Headset. All for just £469.43!!

  • Top 8 games of this year's E3!!

     Assassin's Creed: Odyssey

The Odyssey is the upcoming 11th core instalment of Assassin's Creed, and 20th in the overall series. The game retains the vast open worlds Assassin's Creed has become known for, but populates it with numerous quests, side quests, and what amounts to 'distractions' from the main quest. Much of the groundwork for this was laid by last year's Assassin's Creed: Origins.

Set in ancient Greece, you play as either Alexios or Kassandra, choosing one of the two at the start of the game and following their life. Either way, you're a child of Sparta and descendant of Leonidas I, who is cast out but grows up into a mercenary. However, Kassandra was the most-talked about of the two. Odyssey will hopefully break the sense of repetition that crept in a few years ago.

    Battlefield V

Be prepared to be taken back to basics with a game set in World War One, the Second World War is a natural progression. Within the game, Battlefield remains a unique shooter, especially with its single player 'War Stories' mode. There are just enough changes to make things feel fresh while acknowledging the old adage of 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it.'

IGN calls it "the most revolutionary Battlefield in the last decade.", as you can clearly see that a lot more tweaking and refinement has happened, and it's now totally engrossing and gripping in the conflict in which it's set.

    Ghost of Tsushima

Not only is it jaw-droppingly pretty and inspiringly beautiful to look at, it has huge game potential! The game was the dark horse title, as little on the game was shown prior to the event.

The game was revealed as an open-world samurai epic, inspired by Japanese cinema and set during the Mongol Invasion. It's a time of turmoil for Japan, and as wandering swordsman Jin, you're caught in the middle of it.

    Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

Literally the biggest Smash Bros. game of all time, expectations are literally sky high! No doubt hardcore players will want to tear the game apart to master various new features, but so far it feels like Nintendo have again mastered the balance between complexity and accessibility that makes Super Smash Bros. so special...

    SmashFeature

    Cyberpunk 2077

This game could be the start of something great! It's full of big ideas and promises huge amounts of customisation and individuality when it comes to your character. If they can pull this all off, then it could be a standout title. Specifically, Eurogamer says it was "blown away by the level of detail in Night City".

    Cyberpunk-2077-1014802

    Rage 2

The original Rage never really gelled with many players, offering great ideas but lacking consistency. The unexpected sequel has a much stronger identity as a game worthwhile, it has kept and refined the good features within the first game.

Hopefully, this one will get a far warmer reception when it releases.
